The Asheville Legal Migration Assistance (ALMA) program of the Western Regional Office assists clients of any nationality with translations, work authorization documents, family-based petitions, affidavits of support, temporary protected status, and citizenship applications. We also provide information and make referrals to other agencies or private attorneys when appropriate. To ensure that more people over a wider service area have access to our immigration services, one staff member travels twice a month to Hendersonville and Morganton.

ALMA is accredited by the Board of Immigration Appeals. Our staff help clients better understand their legal status and possible immigration benefits. Both staff members have access to a network of local immigration attorneys, as well as having access to the Catholic Legal Immigration Network Inc. (CLINIC), a nationwide network of immigration attorneys and recognized agencies.

More than 20,000 Hispanics live in regions served by the Western Regional Office, which includes Buncombe, Madison, Haywood, Henderson, McDowell, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Rutherford, Polk, and Transylvania counties.  For many families legal documentation leads to better access to employment, social services, and education. A client’s quality of life is directly related to his or her immigration status since this affects employment opportunities, filing income tax returns, school enrollment, eligibility for driver’s licenses, public benefits, and health insurance.  For the past 12 years, Catholic Social Services offers  professional, trustworthy immigration advice to our clients.  We are proud to help the immigrant community of Western North Carolina.
